From retrofit incentives and certifications to smart controls and HVAC optimisation
The series opened with strategic perspectives on why retrofits matter now. Jasmine from Climate Asia (a BSD subsidiary) shared financial insights on government support and green asset trends, showing why sustainable retrofits make ecological and economic sense. Mr. Gopala (GBCI) highlighted how international standards can strengthen operations and maintenance while reducing operational costs, and Ms. Izzati (BSD Consultancy) introduced key principles of green building certifications for long-term asset value.
Part 2 went deeper into execution. Ir. Chua covered Malaysia’s available grants and EECA 2023 updates, while Mr. Jeffrey showcased how Honeywell’s smart controls and automation can cut energy use across building systems. Ir. Ng Yong Kong shared advances in efficient fan technology, including IE5 motor-driven models, and Daikin’s Mr. Evic and Mr. Lau presented a chiller and controls case study demonstrating measurable retrofit benefits.
One message stood out: change management is essential. With the right mix of incentives, innovation, and expertise, aging buildings can become high-performing, future-ready assets.
